Slovak Paradise – Podlesok
Podlesok near Hrabušice is the best-known gateway to the Slovak Paradise National Park, about a fifteen-minute drive from Dravce. This is the starting point of the legendary Suchá Belá gorge, which leads through a system of ladders, footbridges and steps past waterfalls – one of the most popular hiking trails in Slovakia. The route is one-way and manageable for older children and reasonably fit hikers, but count on sturdy footwear and around 3 hours. At Podlesok you'll find a car park, an information centre and refreshments, making it a practical start for a full-day trip into Slovak Paradise.

Tomášovský výhľad and the Hornád Gorge
Tomášovský výhľad is an iconic rock terrace rising more than 140 metres above the canyon of the Hornád River and rightly ranks among the most photographed spots in Slovak Paradise. The easy trail from Spišské Tomášovce takes about 40 minutes and is manageable even for families with younger children, making it ideal for a half-day trip from Villa Gallera. From the viewing platform you look out over wooded valleys, rock walls and, in the distance, the ridges of the High Tatras – it's most beautiful at dawn or sunset. More experienced hikers can continue down into the Hornád Gorge, one of the park's most impressive gorges, with chains and steps right above the water.

Levoča (UNESCO)
Levoča is the closest historic town to Villa Gallera – less than ten minutes from Dravce, so it's perfect even for a short early-evening trip. The medieval square with its burgher houses, Renaissance town hall and cage of shame is, together with the whole town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. St James's Church holds the tallest wooden Gothic altar in the world by Master Paul of Levoča, standing almost 19 metres high and a unique work of European significance. Above the town rises Marian Hill, the largest pilgrimage site in Slovakia, offering a wonderful view of Levoča and the Levoča Hills.

Spiš Castle (UNESCO)
Spiš Castle is one of the largest castle complexes in Central Europe, and its silhouette on a travertine cliff is among the best-known symbols of Slovakia. A tour of the vast grounds with its Romanesque palace, castle tower and exhibition of medieval weapons comfortably fills a morning, including the drive – about 25 minutes from Dravce. The castle tower offers a panoramic view of the Spiš basin, the Levoča Hills and the distant Tatras, making it a favourite destination for families and photographers alike. Right below the castle it's worth stopping at Spišská Kapitula, nicknamed the “Slovak Vatican”, and at nearby Žehra with its frescoes inscribed together with the castle in UNESCO.

The High Tatras
The highest mountains in Central Europe are about half an hour from Villa Gallera, so the Tatras work even as a spontaneous day trip. In summer, hiking trails to tarns and waterfalls beckon – Štrbské Pleso, Popradské Pleso and Hrebienok above Starý Smokovec are classics for families and experienced hikers alike. The cable car to Lomnický štít takes you up to 2,634 metres and offers an unforgettable panorama. In winter the area turns into a skiing paradise: the Tatranská Lomnica, Štrbské Pleso and Jasná resorts offer slopes for all levels, from children's slopes to demanding black runs.

Dobšiná Ice Cave (UNESCO)
Dobšiná Ice Cave is one of the world's most important ice caves and, together with the caves of the Slovak Karst, is inscribed on the UNESCO list. Inside awaits a massive ice filling – icefalls, columns and frozen walls that in places reach a thickness of over 26 metres. The temperature in the cave stays below zero even in summer, making it an ideal destination on a hot day, but don't forget a jacket and sturdy shoes. It's about a 40-minute drive from Villa Gallera, and the entrance is reached by roughly a 20-minute walk uphill through the forest from the car park, so set aside the whole morning.

AquaCity Poprad
AquaCity Poprad is the best-known thermal water park beneath the Tatras, about 25 minutes from Villa Gallera. The complex offers outdoor and indoor thermal pools fed by geothermal water, water slides, children's paddling areas and a large wellness zone with saunas. It's a great backup plan for a rainy day as well as pleasant recovery after a demanding hike in the gorges of Slovak Paradise. Children love the water attractions, adults the pools with views of the Tatra peaks – which is why AquaCity is one of our guests' most frequent tips.

Kláštorisko
Kláštorisko is the only place right in the heart of Slovak Paradise where you'll find a tourist chalet with refreshments – and an archaeological monument at the same time. Here lie the ruins of a medieval Carthusian monastery from the 14th century, which was a refuge for locals during the Tatar invasions. You can reach it by several routes: the adrenaline way through the Suchá Belá or Piecky gorges, or the more comfortable forest path from Podlesok, which is also suitable for families with children. Thanks to its position in the centre of the park, Kláštorisko is an ideal place to rest in the middle of a full-day hike through Slovak Paradise.

Cycling and cross-country skiing
The area around Dravce and the Levoča Hills is criss-crossed with marked cycling trails that lead through the quiet Spiš countryside among fields, forests and historic villages. In summer you can choose from easy family loops as well as more demanding mountain routes for experienced cyclists, and you can store your bikes safely right on the villa's fenced grounds. In winter the same paths turn into groomed cross-country skiing trails, among the most beautiful in the Spiš region. Thanks to the villa's peaceful location, you set off for sport right from the door – with no lengthy drive.
